THE WORLD JUSTICE DAY: SUPPORT THE ICC TO END IMPUNITY FOR INTERNATIONAL CRIMES.
Today Justice Access Point joins the rest of the world in marking the World Justice Day. World Day for International Justice is also known as International Criminal Justice Day or International Justice Day. The World Justice Rights day, July 17, is the Day of International Criminal Justice. It marks the anniversary of the 1998 Rome Statute: the founding treaty of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The International criminal court is the only permanent criminal court that holds perpetrators of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity accountable. The establishment of the International criminal court has inspired much hope that the most horrendous crimes will no longer go unpunished and that its deterrent effect will significantly reduce their occurrence.
Notwithstanding this optimism, the ICC still has a number of challenges to overcome. Apart from the logistical, operational difficulties the court has been beleaguered with a perceptual problem of being a biased court arguably threaten its very existence.
Even then, the International criminal court remains the only realistic hope of putting an end to impunity for international crimes. Every effort should be made to support the court unfair self-serving criticisms and to genuinely support to become a more efficient and international criminal.
As part of this year’s commemorative activities for the International Justice Day, JAP will hold a series of media events and public lectures in selected universities in and around Kampala to raise public awareness on international criminal law and justice and in support of victims of international crimes.
